The Toyota MR2 was a legendary sports car produced from 1984 to 2007. It had three generations:
1. The first generation, known as the W10 series, was produced from 1984 to 1989.
2. The second generation, the W20 series, was produced from 1989 to 1999. Many enthusiasts referred to it as the “Poor Man’s Ferrari” or “Baby Ferrari.”
3. The third generation, the W30 series, was a softer roadster produced from 1999 to 2007. The MR2 was sold brand new in New Zealand during its production years, but it has since been discontinued, making it no longer available as a new car. Nevertheless, used models can still be found on the market, although very few models are available now.
| Year | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1984 | $4,010 | Reserve met. Early AW11 generation (MK1). Likely project or average condition at this price |
| 1989 | $25,000 – $27,000 | MK1 (AW11) High asking price probably restored, supercharged, or very clean original condition |
| 1990 | $5,350 – $26,000 | Huge price range. SW20 generation lower prices likely non-turbo/project cars; higher prices could be turbo/manual/low km examples |
| 1995 | $6,900 | Mid-range SW20. Could be fair value if running well with WOF/Rego and no major rust/issues |
| 1996 | $25,000 | Later SW20 models are more collectible. High price may indicate turbo, T-top, low mileage, or imported performance spec |
