The Volkswagen Polo was introduced in 1975 as a small car and has continued to be offered through six generations over nearly five decades. The first generation, known as the Mk1 or Volkswagen Derby, was produced from 1975 to 1981. The second generation, the Mk2, was available from 1981 to 1994. The third generation, the Mk3, was produced from 1994 to 2001. The fourth generation, the Mk4, was available from 2001 to 2009. The fifth generation, the Mk5, was produced from 2009 to 2017. The sixth generation, known as the Mk6 or AW/BZ/AE, was introduced in 2017 and is still available in the automotive market today.
