I was browsing used Mitsubishi Express listings the other day and noticed something odd: every van on the market is a 2021 or 2022. Not a single older one. Just five vans on Trade Me and six on Auto Trader, all from the same two-year window.
So I looked closer.
The Express only arrived in NZ around that time, which explains the vintage. But what caught my eye was the kilometres. These things are 3–5 years old, and some have already cracked 200,000 km. That’s not light use; someone has been working these vans hard.
And the prices reflect it.
| Year | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | $21,995-$35,995 | 14,608 - 213,814km |
| 2021 | $20,990-$34,990 | 49,250 - 169,795km |
Same model year, $14,000 apart. That gap is entirely down to kilometres.
So if you’re thinking about buying one, ignore the year. A 2022 with 213,000 km has had a tougher life than a 2021 with 49,000. The year badge means nothing here; the odometer tells the real story.
Buy on kilometres, not the sticker.
