I spent more than an hour checking all the listings for the Mazda Premacy. I found that every single listing was petrol. So I started digging and found that it is unavailable as a diesel variant in New Zealand. Mazda did produce a diesel Premacy; the 2.0 DITD engine was available in European markets, particularly the UK, through the early 2000s. But here’s the thing, NZ’s Japanese import pipeline dried that option up completely. Japan never sold the diesel Premacy domestically, and since most of our used car supply flows through Japanese auctions, what Japan didn’t sell, we don’t get.
So if you’re hunting a diesel Premacy in New Zealand, you’re essentially looking at a private import from the UK or Europe, which is possible, but you’re adding compliance costs, shipping, and uncertainty on top of the purchase price. For most buyers, that maths doesn’t work. The petrol 2.0 or 2.3 is genuinely your only option here. Once I accepted that, the search got a lot easier. Here are the prices for the Mazda Premacy for all years.
| Year | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2017 | $9,999-$12,430 | Newest available. $2,431 spread for 48,283km difference, decent value at top end given low kms |
| 2016 | $6,990-$13,500 | Widest price gap in the dataset. High-km example heavily discounted, inspect carefully at 148k |
| 2015 | $7,990-$13,695 | Consistent pricing with 2016. Good sweet spot year, top end still under $14k with 44k kms |
| 2014 | $5,000-$13,980 | Huge range. The $5k example at 199k kms is high risk. Top end is excellent value at 23k kms |
| 2013 | $5,984-$10,990 | Reasonable spread. 34k kms at $10,990 is strong value compared to newer years |
| 2012 | $5,500-$8,984 | Tightest reliable range. Both examples reasonable, neither extreme on kms or price |
| 2011 | $3,000-$6,970 | $3k entry at 208k kms is budget territory, expect maintenance costs soon |
| 2010 | $4,500-$10,990 | Odd gap. $10,990 at 70k kms is overpriced compared to 2013 equivalents |
| 2009 | $3,800-$5,200 | Both high kms. Narrow price gap suggests these are end-of-life value buys |
| 2008 | $3,000-$5,500 | $5,500 at 80k kms is surprisingly good kms for the age, worth investigating |
| 2007 | $3,900-$5,995 | High kms across both. Price premium over 2008 hard to justify |
| 2006 | $3,990-$5,990 | Lower kms than 2007 at similar price. 2006 may offer better value than 2007 |
| 2005 | $2,900-$8,990 | Massive spread. $8,990 at 34k kms is exceptional mileage for age but verify service history |
| 2003 | $3,000 | Only one listing available at 210K kms, only suitable for project car buyers or for parts |
