But, having said that, mechanics in New Zealand are quite expensive, and if you visit them for repairs, you could end up with a hefty bill. On top of that, new parts for your Toyota Aqua are not that cheap, so you have to consider buying used ones to cut costs. Therefore, as far is its possible, you should put on your DIY hat and try tackling some easy repairs at home with used parts.

Faulty Headlight Bulbs

Headlight bulbs are one of the smallest components in a car and also one that don’t require frequent repairs. But, when the headlight or taillight bulbs malfunction, it’s your duty to have them changed as soon as possible. If you are not quick, you can have visibility issues at night and the police can also hand you a fine for a non-working headlight or taillight. Luckily, changing headlight bulbs is very easy and you can do it at home with little to no knowledge about your car.

First, you have to acquire a used headlight bulb from a car wrecker or any other place of your liking. Second, locate the inner part of the headlight housing (under the bonnet), take out the old bulb and put in the new. There are tons of DIY videos for this online, so it is definitely not worth paying a mechanic or technician to do this for you.

Wiper Blade Replacement

Wiper blades come in handy when it is raining or snowing outside. They essentially clear the windscreen of rainwater so you can see the road ahead. So, you can understand how important properly functioning wiper blades are for your and others safety. If you have old and worn-out wipers, visibility can be a serious issue. Therefore, changing them at the earliest interval should be your priority.

You can buy slightly used ones from junkyards and install them at home. The process is easy, and it is as follows:

  • Lift the wiper and locate the release tab found underneath the blade.
  • Once released, pull the wiper blade downwards, and it should slide out of its housing.
  • Now grab your new blade, and do the same thing but in reverse.

Cabin Air Filter

The cabin air filter has the important job of cleaning the air that comes in to the A/C from outside. It catches dust, pollen, small insects and all other small particles, protecting you and the A/C from harm. Therefore, it is necessary that you change the cabin filter regularly. Your car’s user manual should have information about this.

How to change it? Well, it is easy and we’ll take you through the process. But, before we get any further, it is important to note that filters should always be in good condition of you are buying them used, otherwise you’ll be doing more harm to your car than good. Now that that is out of the way, here is how you change the cabin air filter.

  • The cabin air filter is hidden behind the Toyota Aqua’s glovebox. You need to open it fully to see the filter’s container.
  • Once you have located the container, you’ll see two tabs shutting it tight.
  • Press on the tabs to release the container’s cover.
  • Inside, you will find your old cabin air filter
  • Now, carefully remove it and place the new one in the exact position as the old one an close the container.
  • Push the glovebox back in its place, and voila it’s done!

Air Filter

Your car requires large amounts of air to power its engine, which is why an uninhibited supply of is necessary. But when the car sucks in air from the atmosphere, it is possible for other contaminants to enter the combustion chamber. This can spell disaster for your car, which is why we need an air filter for protection.

A clean and easy-flowing air filter not only gives your car better fuel efficiency, but it also helps with optimal engine performance. Therefore, you must keep an eye on it and change the filter on regular intervals. You wouldn’t want a car that gives you 23 km/l to suddenly do worse.

  • To change the air filter, you must locate the air filter box, usually located under the bonnet.
  • It is a black box, held in place with some tabs, which you’ll need to open to replace the filter.
  • Once you have opened it, remove the old filter and put in the new one in its place.
  • Now, close the box’s lid and you’re good to go.

Note: It is imperative that you choose a used air filter that is in good condition, otherwise you could harm your car and reduce its fuel efficiency.
